{"id":3837,"date":"2011-07-20T16:27:12","date_gmt":"2011-07-20T14:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/code.openark.org\/blog\/?p=3837"},"modified":"2011-07-20T16:27:12","modified_gmt":"2011-07-20T14:27:12","slug":"common_schema-looking-for-contributions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/code.openark.org\/blog\/mysql\/common_schema-looking-for-contributions","title":{"rendered":"common_schema: looking for contributions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In my <a href=\"http:\/\/code.openark.org\/blog\/mysql\/announcing-common_schema-common-views-routines-for-mysql\">announcement<\/a> for <a title=\"common_schema\" href=\"..\/..\/forge\/common_schema\">common_schema<\/a> I have failed to deliver the following message:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I will be happy to receive contributions to <em>common_schema<\/em>, and I will be happy to have contributors on this project<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4>What kind of contributions are wanted?<\/h4>\n<p>So, I&#8217;m mostly interested right now in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Views: providing more insight on metadata (data types, schemata, volumes, transactions, locks, connections, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Views: SQL code generation (e.g. <a href=\"http:\/\/common-schema.googlecode.com\/svn\/trunk\/common_schema\/doc\/html\/sql_foreign_keys.html\">generate my FOREIGN KEYs<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Functions: DETERMINISTIC, NO SQL, preferably no control flow inside, making for simple calls what is usually a typical, repeating function combination.<\/li>\n<li>Tables: small, static data that is handy to have around. But really, <em>small<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Less interested in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Procedures<\/li>\n<li>OS dependent solutions (e.g. calling LOAD_FILE(&#8216;\/proc\/meminfo&#8217;) which only makes sense on Linux)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;ve got a few ideas already, and have received contributions and ideas from others (I&#8217;m looking at you, Roland).<\/p>\n<p>If you have a good idea you&#8217;d like to share, why don&#8217;t you <a href=\"http:\/\/code.google.com\/p\/common-schema\/issues\/entry?template=Request%20for%20new%20component\">submit it under the Issues page<\/a> (submit as <em>&#8220;Request for new component&#8221;<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>Everything is done on my spare time, and there&#8217;s not much of that. So, if you do submit something and it&#8217;s not in right away, please be patient.
